Is my ankle sprained, broken, or just sore and twisted?!

Question: Is my ankle sprained, broken, or just sore and twisted?
I was playing basketball last night and when I went up for a shot I landed awkwardly on my defender's foot and my right ankle rolled to the right with a lot of my weight on it. I heard and felt like a crunching sensation right away. I immediately was upset and had thought that I had injured myself badly but I took a little break and walked it off and was able to finish the game but not at 100%. I was able to walk fine without much pain to my car and to the store afterward to buy ice and epsom salt. When I was at the store walking around and at my house last night I was able to walk fine with relatively little pain and even jog slightly. My wife helped me ice it and I put it in epsom salt as well. I woke up this morning and I can walk on it but it hurts worse than last night when I put pressure on it. The funny thing is there is not any noticeable bruising and it does not have a lot of swelling. So basically my question is, is it twisted, sprained, broken? And what should I do. I can walk on it.

Answers:

Okay there is no possible way its broken, because you would not be able to finish a basketball game with a broken ankle, the pain would be incredible. I am very sure its sprained, so get an ace bandage and wrap it up to keep the ankle from moving, ice it and rest it, i don't mean crutches, i just mean no b ball until it stops hurting, ps remeber to wrap the bandage under your foot, and above your ankle so your ankle cant move at all

3 sprained ankles during bball season
freshman team 16 wins 3 losses

It sounds like its likely a minor sprain that will sort its self out in a few days. You got lucky. NO one can tell if something is broken or not without an xray however time heals and sorts out many things and from your description your dealing with a minor sprain.

go to the doctor do not put any weight on that foot its most likely broken putting weight on it will make you have a cast longer
