Will I be taller than my parents?!

Question: Will I be taller than my parents?
I am a 16 year old male and I am roughly 5'6 (roughly 165-167cm) and I am wondering if it is possible for me to grow taller?

My Mother is 5'6 and my father is around 170cm (5'7 I think) I ready somewhere that there is some sort of 'rule' that the offspring will always be slightly taller than the parent of their gender however I am not sure if this is true. So I want to know if there is any possibility of me being taller than my father and perhaps reach 5'7 or 5'8 in height.

I am quite insecure about my height now as after I started weightlifting last year I have became a lot more muscular and I think this might be making me look shorter as it's only now people mention to me sometimes that I'm small for my age. I am not too bothered about it it's just that I feel my confidence levels have dropped slightly since people have started saying this and If it wasnt for the fact I take care of my body I would have little self-esteem. If I grew even an Inch or 2 I feel it would do wonders for me.

Rambling on abit now sorry, but if anyone can help Id appreciate it alot.

Answers:

You are 16; you still have at least 2 more years to grow.

Be careful with the bodybuilding to not "overdo" it. Having muscles that are /overly/ strong during puberty and childhood has been known to stunt bone growth. Probably while you are still during puberty, I would advise doing more aerobics, and then when you are 18, switch back over to heavy weightlifting.

EDIT: Talk to your doctor... some people say heavy muscles DO stunt bone growth, some people say it doesn't... see link below?

im 5'9, parents 5'1 & 5'6... still believing

Maybe just a little my brother is taller than my parents

I know of a family of four boys where only one grew taller than either parent.

The only way to find out before your body finishes growing is to have a very expensive DNA test. Your genes do not only come from your parents but all of your ancestry.

You said that the muscles you gained from weight lifting has kept you from losing all your confidence. Well, don't stop.
Is it possible that the people who comment about you height are taller than you but aren't as muscular as you? They may just be trying to guard their own status by keeping you in "check". They probably are intimidated by your muscles. Certain people can only feel safe if they are intimidating to others. High School is rampant with these types. Everybody is constantly guarding their turf.
The one son in the family that I mentioned before was only a little over five feet, but won the bench press competition in his age group by lifting 300 pounds while in High School. No one messed with him. He even played foot ball and was penalized for unnecessary roughness in football, even though the guy he knocked down looked twice his size. .

This is all personal. I am only 5ft 5in myself. You are one inch taller than me.
And you probably don't have 29 inch legs. I look like an Urkel Gnome if I try pulling my pants up to make my legs look longer.
I have a large head. I can't find hats to fit my cranium. I look like an improper fraction.
The best things for me was to change what I could and live with the rest. I gained muscle and sarcastic but self -deprecating sense of humor. I have lots of friends who don;t care what I look like now. They are more interested in what I will say to make them laugh.
