I'm a male with bigger hips than my waist?!

Question: I'm a male with bigger hips than my waist?
I have an odd body shape... I'm 17 going on 18 , 6' 1" and 130 lbs and my hips are about one to two inches wider than my waist/torso and it looks weird/feminine... Is this just a part of growing up and will my body fill out? It just makes me so self conscious so I wear jackets everywhere I go... Please help!

Answers:

You will fill out eventually. Some heavy exercise will help you gain muscle mass. At 130 lbs. and 6' 1" you are underweight. I thought I was skinny when I graduated from high school. I was 6 ft and weighed 140 lbs. The shape of your body is determined by genetics, so your hips may be a little wider than usual for boys your age. Thank your parents for that. As you mature the rest of your body should catch up with your hips. Because of your body shape it is important you exercise. If you don't and gain just fat you may have a pear shaped body as you get older. Of course we are often very self-conscious about how we look, so it may not be as bad as you think it is. My hips sort of stood out compared to the rest of my body at your age, because I was skinny also.

You need to increase your body mass!! Start taking protein drinks along with your diet, or increase your daily protein and do some weight lifting, ab crunches, that will help fill you out a bit. Males that are that tall, and that thin, look anorexic. I suspect you don't eat enough food. See a personal trainer.
