question about quitting smoking cigarettes?!

Question: Question about quitting smoking cigarettes?
I'm on my 2nd day of not smoking and now I got a sore throat and both ears hurt, and a headache and stomach pain..and I was being a dummy because I felt nauseated and trying to sticking my finger down my throat force myself to throw up and now I'm spitting up a little bit of blood. Is it a common withdrawal to have a sore throat and all the things I listed.

Answers:

That's not usually one of the withdrawal symptoms.
You may have been ready to come down w/a cold or flu or stomach virus just about the same time you began to stop smoking. Just a coincidence at best.
Congratulations on your decision to stop. Your entire body will thank you every day for the rest of your life.
I smoked for 40 years - and have been stopped now for 20 years.
Now, if I could just stop eating - I could save some money ~ ~ ~ ~

I went cold turkey 12 years ago, just threw out all cigarettes, lighters and ashtrays, and that was it, no sickness, no withdrawal, no nothing, and I haven't had a cigarette since 1999.

You have to have the right mindset and if you are thinking about withdrawal, it won't work, you'll be smoking by the end of the weekend. You have to make up your mind you are going to quit, and if you don't you won't its that simple.

Stopping smoking is a pretty simple thing to do... in principle. Maybe because of it sounding so easy it catches people off guard and ultimately makes it much more difficult to quit.

There are a lot of products out there that can help you to stop smoking. Which is best for you depends on many factors and ultimately the only person that knows which is best for you is you.

The best thing to do when you are looking to stop smoking is to find out what options you have, and then decide which sounds best for you.

Here's a website that lists the different things that are out there to help you stop smoking.

I gave up smoking 4 weeks ago and yes around about day 4 I got a raging sore throat that developed into really bad sinusitis that lasted for 4 days. All is good now.
They say the worst thing about giving up comes in three's, like the 3rd day, the 3rd week and the 3rd month. I found this to be quite accurate but I am not going back to smoking again. Well done you for stopping.

I quit 4 months cold turkey after smoking for 40 years. That doesn't sound like a withdrawal symptom to me. But, what might be happening is that your bronchial tubes, sinuses and lungs are starting to clear themselves out of all the mucous that had hardened from the cigs. I would get an over-the-counter decongestant or expectorant like mucinex and it will help rid of all the garbage faster.

Abagail.....you gave the best response that I have ever heard. It was extremely hard for me to quit, and at times I wonder if I would ever go back to it. But, after reading your response, it really sunk in about why we smoke.. And now I know, I will NEVER pick up another cigarette and smoke it. Thank You so much.

I get you. All around you almost everyday you’re going to run into people that don’t smoke. Do these people seem like they’re enjoying life more than you are? Do they appear to be enjoying themselves less because they aren’t smoking? Do they seem more stressed out? What you ought to notice is that all those people around you that don’t smoke are exactly like you are – and they go through the exact same things that you do, with the only difference being that they don’t immerse themselves in clouds and clouds of smoke!
But many smokers continue to do so simply because they feel a need to. The general feeling is that if they were to stop smoking they’d end up feeling more down, less happy, more stressed out, etc. While it is true that smoking releases dopamine that causes a mild euphoria and helps you to relax – the question that you should really be asking yourself is whether or not you need smoking in order to be able to feel content and relaxed!
From the start of your life, right up to the point where you did start smoking, you managed to cope well without cigarettes. What makes you believe that you need to smoke or you wouldn’t be able to cope from this point forward? When exactly did you start feeling like this? Chances are, you probably don’t even remember the exact point when you became dependent on smoking – but that really doesn’t matter.
All things said and done, smoking is a habit that is dangerous – and it will probably end up killing you if you don’t quit at some point or other. Now that you know that there’s really no justification for thinking that you ‘need’ to smoke, it is up to you to take the next step, and firmly decide to kick your unwanted habit!

God bless!
