Hard bump behind my head?!

Question: Hard bump behind my head?
Ok, so I've had this lump-like bump behind my head for like... as long as I can remember. I was probably born with it, or I've had it since a child. Anyways, I am 20 years old now.

I was concerned so I went to the Doctors and they scheduled an X-Ray, and from the results they told me that my skull grew a small lumpy bone behind my head growing outwards. Its hard for me to tell if it has grown at all or not, because as I've grown, my mom says it might have grown as well. However, I always feel my head, and it feels the same to me, compared to the size of the rest of my head.

The bump is bone-like hard. It is obviously attached to my bone, I can move my skin around it. It has NEVER hurt me before, and I've had it for my entire life.

The doctors said that I could have it surgically removed, but not needed, only if I was having a hard time sleeping with it there... Can it become cancerous if I decide not to have surgery?

Answers:

i also have hard lump on back of head - when growing up my parents told me its called a "bump of knowledge" and i'm sticking to that! it never causes me any difficulty except at hairdressers leaning with head back over sink.

I'm 42 years old today and so far never had any concerns with it.

Embrace your "bump of knowledge" - may the force be with you :-)

Well the sensible thing would be to ask doctor who did X-ray.

If it is a bone, no reason to become cancerous
that i can think of.
