My husband got a vasectomy two days ago, when will he feel better?!

Question: My husband got a vasectomy two days ago, when will he feel better?
The surgery is supposed to be minor! It's been more than 48 hours and he's still laying around saying he's in a lot of pain. He's taking vicodin and using ice and says it still hurts. Is this normal, possibly a complication or is he a big baby? I'm going a bit nuts! I have three kids under three to take care of and now him. I just want him to go back to normal!

Sounds like a big ole baby to me. Hang in there - keep your sanity - there's a light at the end of the tunnel !!

Short-term complications include temporary bruising and bleeding, known as hematoma. The primary long-term complication is/are chronic pain condition(s)/syndromes that can effect any of the scrotal, pelvic and/or lower-abdominal regions, known as post-vasectomy pain syndrome. Animal and human data indicate that vasectomy does not increase atherosclerosis and that increases in circulating immune complexes after vasectomy are transient. Furthermore, the weight of the evidence regarding prostate and testicular cancer suggests that men with vasectomy are not at increased risk of these cancers. Post-vasectomy pain syndrome (PVPS) is a chronic and sometimes debilitating condition that may develop immediately or several years after vasectomy.[18] One survey cites studies that estimate incidence at one case every ten to thirty vasectomies.[19] The pain can be constant orchialgia or epididymal pain, or it can be pain that occurs only at particular times such as with intercourse, ejaculation, or physical exertion.

It's a normal body's reaction.
But most likely, if it's severe, chances are there has been a complication.
Look for redness and visible signs of skin irritation and possible infection, as it could be an uncommon condition called "sperm granuloma," a painful little bump on the scrotum caused by the leakage of sperm.

Well I think given that he is doing everything right, your are probably right about him being a baby. When I had my vasectomy (late 60's). I did not heed the doctor's advice about the ice or staying down.I had it done on a Friday afternoon and went back to work as a camera salesman Monday, where I had to stand on my feet all day long. After first day, I came home early. we called the doctor and started using the ice and staying down. But my testicles had swollen to the size of melons. But I was able to go back to work two days later. And I used ice at night and the following weekend. So I think if I had followed instructions in the first place I should have gone back to work say the following Wednesday losing two days work rather than four. And I did not have any prescription meds, just Tylenol. So it does sound like either you get him to go back to the doctor and go in with him! And ask the doctor yourself. About his being so long to recover.
So in hind sight I think you are rushing his recovery a bit and he is "milking it" for all the attention he can get. Sit him down (he should already be sitting) and come to a compromise!

It's normal. Guys get a little paranoid about the jewels, but the pain is real. Don't worry, in a week or a few he'll be back to normal, and a ready for a test ride. :)

Congratulations! Have fun!

A vasectomy is braver than having very simple tubal is outpatient surgery too.
