Prostrate cancer and radiation seeds?!

Question:

Prostrate cancer and radiation seeds?

My dad was diagnosed with prostrate cancer yesterday, and I've been doing a little research. I learned that if he has this "radiation seed" procedure done, he's going to have to stay away from pregnant women and small children for some months (which could be a problem for my recently married brother and sister-in-law...but we'll cross that bridge when we get there).

My current question is: Does this procedure always result in impotence? My mom said that the doctor mentioned it would. Is this something Viagra (or a simular drug) could remedy?

Links, if you could. Thanks!

Answers:

There have been many advances in prostate cancer treatment even since I had mine 5 years ago. I've seen several informative sites, but I found them simply by googling "prostate cancer" and then adding any additional words to the search regarding specifics.

To answer your "current question", almost always. And, yes, some men respond well to medications like Viagra, but many do not. There are many prosthetic appliances, implants and other devices that can also be used. The important thing is to get the cancer cured.

And, yes, there is some degree of quarantine involving the radioactive seeds - but, it is usually only a matter of months.
