Answers:

This family has a choice, Spend part of their vacation at the hospital or possibly spending sometime in the future at his funeral. Your friend must rule out cancer! It could be benign or other causes. He can go to the ER, have them do a few tests and determine the problem. If it's malignant, it can spread to other parts of the body that are vital to life. Your friend is young and he has many fertile years ahead of him. Better be safe than sorry.

He should talk with his doctor. Men should see a doctor if they notice any of the following symptoms:

a painless lump or swelling in a testicle
pain or discomfort in a testicle or in the scrotum
any enlargement of a testicle or change in the way it feels
a feeling of heaviness in the scrotum
a dull ache in the lower abdomen, back, or groin
a sudden collection of fluid in the scrotum

(If this matters to your friend, my brother had cancer of the testicles 20 years ago. He had one removed and lives a normal life today. He caught it early.)

Best Wishes.
