The test was done after I urinated in a cup. The doctor used the dipstick test. I was erect most of the day before the test is it possible semen would have caused my urine to show protein?

Many things can cause protein in urine, not everything means something bad. I have tested positive for protein for 9 years and there is nothing wrong with me or my kidneys I have been checked out thoroughly. Stress, exercise, too much standing, medications, semen, aspirin and NSAIDS vitamins, if the urine sample is contaminated by you touching the cup or your fingers inside the cup, and for women testing too close to their menstrual cycles or during or after (not your concern) The more dangerous are diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney stones, or infections or other kidney problems, cancer. Have a repeat test in a few weeks with a microalbuminum test with first morning urine and make sure the sample is done correctly. Good Luck
