Does caffeine help you to keep muscle while doing cardio?!

Question:

Does caffeine help you to keep muscle while doing cardio?

I read that if you drink caffeine, it will help keep your muscles from breaking themselves down when you are doing high intensity cardiovascular exercises (like running/sprinting).

Is that true? If so, how much a day would work to help keep muscles? 1 cup? 2 cups of coffee? I'm kind of skeptical about it.

Answers:

Actually your muscles don't break themselves down during cardiovascular exercise. The only time this can happen is if you either run a marathon (take a look at those guys) or if you have completely starved yourself.
The body will first use carbohydrates, then fats, then protein(what muscles are made of). It is very hard to get yourself to the stage where you have no carbs or fats left to use as energy.

I think this myth was probably created by bulky guys who were no good at cardio. Have you noticed that it is usually those people who say this? I think its just an excuse for them to not do any cardio because they are not very good at it.
