Does lifting weights at a young age at say 12 stunt your growth?!

Question:

Does lifting weights at a young age at say 12 stunt your growth?

I'm almost 17 and I'm like 5' 6" or so. Also my dad is I think 5' 10" and my mom I think is 5' 1". I've been weight lifting since 6th grade that was when I was 12 then I worked off and on for two years. I started up again in high school. So have I stunted my growth because I've still been growing in hight.

Answers:

Listen, you guys got no clue, lifting weights WILL NOT stunt your growth if you lift responsibly, on the other hand if your mucking around with weights and being an idiot then yes you could potentially damage a disk or vertebrae in your spine which could possibly lead to stunting your growth. Weights stunting your growth is an old wives tale. If you never got any bad pains in your back or anywhere else for that matter you should be fine and your going to grow normal. For example if your doing squats and just trying to do maximal weights and only going down like 2cms then your doing it wrong and it could be too much weight for your spine, use proper form go at least half way down (power lifting squat) or even better go all the way down and do an olympic squat.
