Vasectomy????!

Question:

Vasectomy????

does anyone know about the vasectomy laws in Arkansas I have been told by many people if the man is married that he has to have his wife signature to get the vasectomy done
just wondering if there is any truth behind this???

Answers:

Not true, but Statutes in Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia requie the written consent of the patient's spouse to voluntary sterilizations.Current legal opinion allows voluntary sterilization on persons over age 25 for any indication; on persons below that age for genetic, medicosocial or criminological indications, or when person already has 4 children. Consent of spouse is not needed; wish of person to be sterilized supercedes that of spouse. It is advisable that the physician consult with spouse which was done by defendant in case in question. No objections were put forward by plaintiff's spouse. Consent must be given to procedure with full knowledge of consequences by person upon whom procedure is performed. This consent need not be a written document. Oral consent is legally sufficient; it flows forth from the physician-patient relationship. Court does not recognize written proof of consent as having greater value than an oral understanding. In the case discussed physician acted within the law because patient was counseled, had given consent, and procedure was performed according to good medical practice.
