You need to swallow your pride and go out there and get screwed around and rejected a few times. You are shy and nervous because you're worried about your feelings and how you will look. Truth is, if you don't go out there and bite the dust a few times, you'll never learn.
The only way to get more confidence around girls is to spend more time with them romantically, not as friends. Start asking girls out, start going on dates, and start getting rejected. It may sting at first but after a few times you start to learn and you realized it's not the end of the world then you can begin to feel more comfortable and like yourself. Girls do have great intuition and can tell when you're acting or nervous or not yourself.
Sorry but there's no easy way to manufacture confidence, it's all trial and error, and then you learn from your mistakes. Can you just walk onto a golf course and automatically know how to play and do well? Of course not, you have to learn and you have to learn by doing really horrible at first. Don't feel bad if you get rejected, you're learning and then you'll be ready when that girl you really want to be with comes along.
