Why do I feel the medical industry is stealing from me...?!

Question:

Why do I feel the medical industry is stealing from me...?

I stopped going to the doctor, because I don't trust that they care about my health. I feel that they are only interested in making claims against my insurance company. It bothers me because they start using scare tacktics to get me to come back. I know I should get a least a yearly physical, but they just make me angy. your fat, your cholestoral is high, stop drinking so much, stop smoking. Same old story, and they can't seem to understand that I'm living my life the way I want to. I know I have some bad habits, but I just really don't care to change right now. I am who I am.

Answers:

When you go to the doctor they have certain things they are required to tell you. First of all if anything was to come back not within normal limits, on your lab work, the Doctor has to let you know and has to try and get you on a better health track. In no way am I saying that you aren't in good health, but the Doctor has to (in protection of his degree)has to inform you.

Second of course everyone will tell you to stop smoking, I smoke and my doctor tells me that all the time. I take the samples of Chantex and go on about my business.

The Doctor knows you will live how you want to, and yes sometimes it could seem like a money racket, but they are, by medical standards, to tell you certain things! I know that you feel fine and you feel like you are leading the life you want to, but if you were to get lung cancer, you could not go back and sue your doctor because he/she had discussed the problems that smoking can cause. Or if you had high liver enzymes and ended up with cirrios of the liver then you couldn't say you never knew about these problems.

I know that they are telling you things that you already know and feel that you don't need to be reminded, but they are just trying to protect themselves. You could switch Doctors if that would make you feel better to get a different look at things.

Good luck and I hope this helped at least a little bit!
