Treatment for prostate?!

Question:

Treatment for prostate?

Hi I have just had a blood test and it came back at 11.67. I have seen the Specialist who carried out a rectal check and said everything feels normal. He is now sending me for a E C O at the Radiology Dept. What does all this mean? Please can anyone advise me?

Answers:

Hia, I hope that you have calmed down after reading some of those answers. You do not say what has been tested but i also believe it to have been yourPSA ( prostate serum amylase) which is a naturally occurring protein produced by the prostate gland. It is high for what ever your age is, not scary high, but high. PSA alone is not a positive indicator of prostate cancer but it would certainly make a specialist look a little more into your system to find out if it necessary to perform other tests to rule out the possibility of cancer. I do not know what a ECO is in our hospital you would have gone for a CT scan or have been put forward for biopsies of the prostate. Until a urologist has found cancer you are not going to be treated for it. Please go for all the tests and if this turns out to be nothing do continue to get your PSA checked every year.
