Answers:

You need to get your beard really soft. This makes the hair easier to cut. The best way to do this is by shaving after your shower, or after you wash your face.

I shave in the shower, after I wash up. This gives a lot of time for the steam to work. I also use a fog free mirror in the shower.

The heat and steam will soften up the hair. A high quality razor and good shave cream are essential. I use a Gillette Fusion and some stuff called "King of Shaves". It is a little pricey, but it is well worth it.($5-6 a tube you only need a little bit!) It comes from England, but is avail. at most stores. I get mine at CVS or Rite Aid or Meijer etc. It is also non lather-low lather formula, so you can see where you are shaving.

After shaving, splash your face with cold water. This will tighten up your pores and cool the razor burn some. Pat your face dry(don't rub, can cause irritation) and apply a good quality after shave. Don't use an alcohol based after shave. It will dry out your skin even more. Try a cream based one. I use Neutragena brand. It is soothing and moisturizes at the same time.

Good luck....

PS: Avoid electric razors, unless you buy a Braun and are willing to spend good money on it. It can take up to 2+ weeks for your face to get used to it. And they tear the crap out of your face. If you can stick with it, it can be OK, but if you switch back and forth, it will be murder on your face everytime you use the electric.
