Men and Sex...Do men connect sex with emotional attachment? Why?

My guy is coming back to the US after his visit to West Africa tomorrow. We just started dating before he left. They say “absence makes the heart grow fonder” and that is definitely the case here. I called him 2 days ago and the entire conversation was about sex. We've never had sex. It kind of bothered me that that was all he could think of. But he said he misses me and wanted to show me how much he missed me through that. What is it with males and sex as a means of emotional attachment?
