I don't know what you regard as big, but size can vary. While most males are pretty much the same size there are some who do get bigger, as well as, some who are smaller. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. The next time you have him in for a doctors visit you could ask the doctor. Boys get erection almost from birth on, I am surprised you have not noticed this before. It is very common for them, and yes they learn at a very young age what to do when they have an erection. Don't be worried about the erections either it is perfectly normal. I know my son learned at a very young age how to give himself an erection. Generally speaking it is not necessary to make comments about his size or his erections. I hope you have been and continue to educate him about his body and it's development which will lead you into his sex education as he gets older.
