Is it natural?!

Question:

Is it natural?

Is it natural for a man in his early 50's to have times when his sex drive is low? Not all the time, but sometimes it lasts for 2 weeks or so. Is this common in men as they grow older?

Answers:

Men are like snowflakes, no two are the same. For some men, the sexual urge can come and go when they reach middle age (early 50's qualifies). For some men their sex drive can diminish entirely. And for some, their sex drive goes way up at that age. Any of these might be okay if the sex drive of the woman in his life followed suit, but a discrepancy in sex drive is not at all uncommon. I think it is more common for the woman's sex drive to diminish while the man's increases, but that is not universal either.

If your husband's sex drive is low at times, or all the time, and that is a problem, I hope you can talk to him honestly about it. A counselor can help. Assuming the other areas of your life are doing well (health, finances, mutual friendship and respect, having fun together), it is most likely his hormones and/or his general physical condition, not you, that are at fault. Please do not think that it is because you are less attractive or desirable.
