Is it normal to go soft during intercourse?!

Question:

Is it normal to go soft during intercourse?

I've never noticed this happen before with my husband, but we had talked about guys being able to ejaculate and then go again. My husband said he didn't understand how people could have sex for hours at a time, because after awhile he loses the erection, or it's just not as hard.

So then, yesterday, we are going at it, and he is really close to the edge, but I'm not, so I suggest changing positions. I moved from my back to my front and he lost the erection! It was completely soft! So, he said to give it a minute because it was due to stopping when he was that close. He just manually stimulated me, and then after a bit he was able to put it in (not fully erect) and then it was okay and he was able to finish. No condom involved so it wasn't that. Does this happen to a lot of guys or what? He's never had a problem before, and he leaves me happy. He says he can get to the edge or have intercourse for awhile and then stop no problem. Same with oral. Is something wrong?

Oh, and he's just turned 30, so he isn't old. We've been together for 10 years and we have sex like twice a week.

Answers:

Nothing is wrong. If you discuss this too much and your husband gets to thinking about his erection he will begin to have problems. An erection is a spinal reflex. It does not require thought. Anything which interferes with the sexual activity - and at times this could mean changing positions - may cause a man to temporarily 'lose' his erection. Get him thinking about you again however and the erection should promptly return. Sounds as if you two have an enjoyable sex life - so just enjoy it - don't worry about it.
