Painful "zit" in my tailbone area?!

Question:

Painful "zit" in my tailbone area?

Iv'e got this painful "zit" like bump at the end of my tail bone and at the top of my butt crack. What the heck is it? It drains some stuff, but I've squeezed it before this has happened and this bloody puss like stuff flew out of it ike a giant bloody zit. It felt better and went away, but now it's back and I'm about to stik it with a pin just to get rid of the pain when I sit! Is it an alien?

Answers:

It is most likely a pilonidal sinus - which are very common in young males (particularly hairy ones). It is an ingrown hair that instead of growing outward tunnels under the skin and forms an abscess deeper usually somewhere in your butt crack (sometimes close to your bottom).

They do drain then fill and can get deeper and deeper.
It is no emergencuy but you need to get some medical advice. The only way to have this treated is with antibiotics and surgery. During surgery they open the area up, drain away all muck, wash the area out and can either let it heal itself or sew it back up depending on how deep large it is.

It will not go away by itself.
Do not stick a pin in it - wont do much good.

I know it might be embarassing but nurses and doctors are very used to seeing these - they are VERY common.

It is important you get it treated as you can end up with chronic problems and recurrence if you leave it.

Goodluck
