How can I build up some muscles fast (arms, chest, stomach, shoulders), what exercises are most effective?

I'm male, 171cm tall, 25 yrs old and underweight. Need advice

i'm right there with you man, tall and skinny. one thing i've done that has helped is do 1 of the following workouts, just try and see which one works best for you: alternate weeks doing 3 sets of 3 reps one week, then 3 sets of 5 reps the next - basically higher weight, lower reputations forces your muscles to tear and re-build. Second workout, most recent - 10 sets of 10 reputations of upper body, vary that between bench, incline/decline bench, butterflies, etc. - things to work your chest. i used to do 2 sets of regular bench, 2 sets of decline, 2 sets of incline, 2 sets of butterflies, 2 of the push press upward/angled. I'd do that workout 2 times a week with a day or 2 in between depending on how sore I was. Be sure to take the day off after lifting that muscle group because that's where the size comes, when it repairs....let me know how this works. and like the person first said, DO NOT RUN! running builds different types of muscles, more for endurance. if you want to get big, do not run - absolutely not. if you absolutely have to run, do sprints, not distance. distance running takes away from your size.
