How to remove my addiction to cola?!

Question:

How to remove my addiction to cola?

Answers:

There are two factors (maybe three) that you need to consider.

1) Caffeine addiction. This is a real physical addiction, and if you quit cold turkey, you'll get headaches and feel lethargic. Try substituting SMALL amounts of coffee or tea, whichever you like least. Or accept the addiction and just enjoy drinking a cup of coffee or tea with breakfast. One cup a day will keep you from having withdrawal problems, and coffee or tea make a relatively benign addiction, much less harmful and expensive than cola.

2) You get a big sugar rush (blood sugar increase, usually followed by a "low" or sharp drop in blood sugar a little later) with cola, and you may be somewhat addicted to that. Try to drink your coffee or tea without sugar, or have a hard candy or danish or something at a separate time so you can sort out the caffeine addiction from the sugar addiction. Don't substitute artificial sweeteners for sugar -- those are REALLY bad for you and can actually cause your body to react the same as sugar does! Hint: ice cream slows down the absorption of sugar, so you won't have either the rush or the sharp drop-off.

3) You may just really like the taste and find it hard to give up. Learn to like something healthier just as much! Flavored seltzers are fizzy with nothing bad in them.

Good luck. I tried to stop drinking coffee for a while but decided I didn't mind the minor caffeine addiction. But I drink it with no sugar or other sweetener.
