Does heavy sweating make you urinate less?!

Question:

Does heavy sweating make you urinate less?

I have noticed that when i am sweating a real lot, i don't have to go when i usually do have to go. Does heavy sweating make you lose enough fluids that you urinate less? For example, if I go in the morning, and play basketball for 6 hours drinking 4 bottles of gatorade, i still dont have to go at 3 o clock. Is this because of sweating?

Answers:

The body is a wonderful machine. In essence, yes, if you sweat a lot and aren't fully hydrated, then you will pee less. You have a chemical in your body called anti-diuretic hormone (vasopressin) that is secreted from the pituitary gland. The kidneys will sense a loss in fluid volume because you are sweating so much. This hormone will then be released in the blood. It tells the body that it better start conserving water and fluid because it is being depleted. This then signals the kidneys to quit filtering out water and sodium that forms our urine. Instead, these products will be reabsorbed by the body to maintain the proper volume in the vessels. If you stay hydrated enough, you will continue to pee like you normally do. Because you are telling me that you are sweating a lot and still aren't peeing, then that tells me that you need to drink more fluid then you are. That's your body's way of telling you that it needs more fluid. Hope this helps!
