How do you prevent razor bumps after shaving your head?!

Question:

How do you prevent razor bumps after shaving your head?

Answers:

I shave my head a few times every summer, and I did a couple times in high school for swim meets.

1: Buzz your head. This makes the whole process a lot easier and you'll use fewer blades.

2: Apply a quality shave cream or gel. I like Edge and Gillette. Make sure that you cover everything liberally. I would recommend doing this in stages, as you shave it, perhaps a hand-sized area at a time, rinse, then the next hand-sized area.

3: Make sure you use a good razor, this is probably the most important part. Brand new is definitely the route to take. I would recommend the HeadBlade (it's designed specifically for shaving heads), the Mach 3, or the Gillette Fusion. I don't like using a Quattro because it doesn't flex the right way for the best angles. You may want to use more than one razor, but that's up to you.

4: Shave your head. Make short strokes "against the grain" for the smoothest possible shave. Make sure you rinse out the blade after every stroke. You may want to shave across the grain too, just to make sure you don't miss anything. This will all work very well and painlessly if you don't use a lot of pressure. That's the reason I pointed out that you may want more than one blade, it prevents razor burn and that often leads to the bumps on your head.

5: When you're done, rinse in cold water. That closes up the pores and makes it harder for dirt and oil to get in there. After that you can add aftershave or lotion, I haven't had a problem with either.

I know that was a lot of things, many of which you may know, but they can all contribute to the bumps on your head if you're not careful.
