What is a good way to lose fat but also gain muscle?!

Question:

What is a good way to lose fat but also gain muscle?

I am 30 years old. While I was in college I worked out constantly, it second-nature to me. However after I got my career off the ground, my "working-out" became lost; and fat took the place of muscle. Now that I am 30 I am trying to get back in shape. It could be a mid-life crisis for all I know...but I really want to get back into shape...get more toned. I, obviously, know the basics of working out. However, now that I am "fat" to be blunt, I am having trouble losing the fat and gaining muscle. I have cut my diet to 3 VERY SMALL meals a day and I consume two LITE protein shakes inbetween meals. I am gaining muscle. However, I am not losing fat or at least not losing any "real" pounds as of yet. What am I doing wrong? Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!

Answers:

It is very difficult to do both at the same time. Most bodybuilders will go in cycles of bulking and then cutting. You will eat all you can (good, healthy things of course) and get somewhere above where you want to be weight wise. You will build muscle, but also gain fat. Once you hit that point, you lower the calories, swtich to more cardio work and burn off some of the extra fat you gained.
