Varicocele?!

Question:

Varicocele?

About 7 weeks ago I discovered a tightness in my groin, not testicular pain but further up in the tubes.

It was later diagnosed as being a varicocele in the left testicle and I have been referred to a specialist for the 29th of June

However having investigated it on the internet my symptoms don't appear to entirely match those which my research has found. For example the discomfort does not go away when I lay down, ejaculation is painful, also when I do ejaculate only a small quantity of semen is present, my erections are weak and I have all but lost my sex drive. I understand that it may have an impact on male fertility but from what I gather the evidence is only correlative.

My question is are my additional symptom something to worry about and should I try and have my appointment moved forward as a matter of urgency? Or could these symptoms just be part of my personal physiology? I am quite anxious about it, so any help would be appreciated.

Answers:

When you read a website only the most common symptoms are ever listed. That does not mean you will have all those symptoms or even the same symptoms. Your symptoms can be as individual as you are but the real diagnosis of a varicocele is made by the palpation (feeling the veinous mass) or visualization of the varicocele. That is real evidence of the diagnosis.

Some men have no pain at all while others have it constantly. You apparently have it constantly. And, since it does impact fertility, it could definitely impact the amount of semen you ejaculate.

While June 29th is not that far away, if you can get in to see the urologist sooner, go for it. It would greatly lessen your anxiety and calm your concerns. Please mention to the office that your pain is constant and maybe they will fit you in sooner. It could be that your appointment is for the 29th because it was the first opening they had. If they don't have an opening, you can request to be called if they have a cancellation. Good luck!
