My son is finally sleeping in his own bed. Now, what about me?!

Question:

My son is finally sleeping in his own bed. Now, what about me?

In January, My wife and I separated. She took the kids and would not let them see me or talk to me for 6 weeks. She took off when I was at work. She found her a new boyfriend and she is addicted to drugs.

I took her to court and got custody of the kids. they live with me now and she has limited visitation.Because of the 6 weeks with no contact with my kids, my son has slept in my bed with me. He says he missed me and wants to make sure he can always get to me. Thats why he sleeps with me. I have got him to sleep in his own bed now. I kneel down beside him and put my head on his bed. Most of the time I fall asleep to. Since I have been doing this, when I go to my bed, I wake up finding myself kneeling beside my bed. Have I got use to sleeping like this? Is there any harm for me to sleep on my knees? Why do i do this? I know when I get in my bed, I am sleeping laying down. What can I do to correct this with out getting bed rails?

Answers:

I suggest that you go through some relaxation therapy, to train yourself to relax when you are lying down.
It is very easy for us to stew about the day and all of the problems we have when we reach the final place of solitude for the day - bedtime. Train yourself to only lie on your bed or in your bed when you are sleepy.

Set a time to get up in the morning, and get up. Don't linger in bed and sleep in - get up and out of bed. Take a shower - get the pajamas off when you are not sleeping. Then, when you put on your pajamas and lie in your bed, you will be tired.

As you learn to relax lying on your back, you will abandon the need for the newfound relaxation of genuflecting at the bedside.
