When did men having body hair become a bad thing?!

Question:

When did men having body hair become a bad thing?

Aren't men now being sold the same b.s. about how they're supposed to look that has been sold to women for so many years? Shouldn't we men be proud of our hairyness? It's part of what makes us men, no?

Answers:

What we look for in the opposite sex has, in the past few decades anyway, always been dictated by whatever the mainstream powers-that-be (internet and magazine columns, movies, etc) deem fashionable. And when they start screaming at girls, "Bodily hair! Hairy backs! Ewwwww!", they listen and start becoming repulsed by hairy backs. And the list goes on. And that's just the short answer.

But none of that means anything when compared to the individual woman's tastes and turn-ons. Some women like a hairy man. Some like a clean-shaven man. Others like a blond-haired man, others black-haired, others with a tanned complexion, others muscly, others stout, etc. Of course some of these characteristics are more popular than others, but to each his or her own. I know of women who were attracted to me when I hadn't shaved in a while, not because I'm particularly good-looking, but just because of the unshaven look which appealed to them generally.

So is body hair a bad thing? Maybe to some female fashion and society writers, but not necessarily to everyone.
