Fertility after measles & chicken pox?!

Question:

Fertility after measles & chicken pox?

My boyfriend had measles when he was a child, then in his 30s he had chicken pox. He used to smoke lots of pot up until a year ago. Will all of those things affect his fertility? I don't smoke at all and I hardly drink alcohol. I'm 37, he is in his early 40s.

I read somewhere that smoking pot hugely affects fertility.

Answers:

Neither chicken pox nor measles should decrease fertility. Another childhood disease, however, namely mumps, CAN render a man infertile. There are lots of other causes for infertility, and many of them can be fixed. He should go to a urologist and get his sperm checked if this is a concern.

At 37 your own fertility is starting to decrease, so conception may take longer than it would have a few years ago. You may not ovulate every month anymore. A good fertility workup for both of you may be in order.

Good luck!
