It's called priapism, and it is a big deal. The excessive blood flow to that area could lead to permanent erectile dysfunction and damage the vessels in the penis.
In the ER, they have a few ways to help, either through medication, or, as bad as it sounds, drainage of the excess blood.
Although it sounds funny, it's a horrific side effect of several prescription drugs out there, not all of which are for ED.
