Two holes at the end of the penis?!

Question:

Two holes at the end of the penis?

My 12 year old son went in for a physical. We mentioned to the pediatrician that he had burning while urinating the night before. This day there was no pain when urinating. The dr examined carefully and found two holes at the tip of his penis. One smaller than the other. He didn't say much about it other than if his urine stream gets decreased he should see a urologist. He also did a urinalysis and it came back normal. I'm concerned I should look into it before there is more of a problem. He has had a problem with burning while urinating only 3 or 4 times prior. Thanks for any comments.

Answers:

Having two ends to the urethra is a fairly common genetic defect, and doesn't usually require plastic surgery. Even so, I'd ask for the referral in any case, and have the urologist explain exactly why this has developed, and what corrective surgery is available. If it does need an operation, it will be best to have it done early.
