The above answers are mostly right. An orange is a good example of a firm testicle.
The point I will elaborate on is the varying firmness. It has a lot to do with production and release. There are instances where your body will go into overdrive on production, and like a balloon, with out a release they will pop (well, they'll get rock hard and you'll wish they'll pop).
As for the guy with the egg sized testicles, go see a doctor, yours are either a figment of your imagination, or you have a serious problem.
