Any real boddybuilders out there I need help.....?!

Question:

Any real boddybuilders out there I need help.....?

I've been working out for a while now.....i pretty much know what i'm doing....i do my research....i read all types of bodybuilding books and magazines but i still have one question that i cant figure out.....
i know overtraining is bad....but i have a few friends that are pretty big and do like 30-35 sets per bodypart
then i see others that are big doing like 12-20 sets per body part
and then i read some mags and see these profesionals routines where they only do like 3 workouts for each muscle and only do like 2 - 3 sets per workout....so thats only 9 sets per muscle
Any professionals bodybuilders out there that have some advice about which way is the best way to go (how many sets for each muscle is the best way for that muscle to grow to its full potentiol?)

Answers:

I'm no professional, right...

But every body has there own ideas.. so it's whatever works for you as long as you remain consistent.

A rule of thumb is that you do high reps of low weights to get lean, strip off the fat around the muscles which helps define them...

and you do low reps with high weights to get more mass ... add bulk to the muscles which also helps define them.

If you are a scrawny little wimpy kid ... go for bulk. If you are already built like a terminator and pack down in a rugby scrum... why not go for lean muscle?

A bulk program would be 8 - 10 reps in three or four sets... where you basically fail to lift the last rep or two. Here is a 4 day routine for example... http://www.redbak.net/pages/maximum.html...

A lean muslce set would be 15 reps in four sets... where you back off the weight a little so that you can feel the burn but still complete.
