Shooting pain in temple?!

Shooting pain in temple?

okay, so yesterday afternoon my husband started getting these stabbing sharp pains in his right temple, which continued on into the night. i told him to take some motrin for it, but that didn't work. the pain isn't constant, it's more like every 30-40 minutes.

any ideas?

This could be either "temporal arteritis" or a "cluster headache" You can feel around the temporal area to see if the surface arteries are painful to the touch. If they are, it's likely that it is temporal arteritis. A cluster headache is excruciatingly painful, and is felt behind one eye.

Both respond well to breathing exercises. Have your husband draw in a steady, deep breath for eight seconds, hold it for four, and let it out slowly for eight more seconds. Repeat this several times.
