What can I do to not get so much "irritation" when shaving my face?!

What can I do to not get so much "irritation" when shaving my face?
So far I haven't really done anything for it, but I don't like to shave as frequent and I was just wondering.
Answers:
A good shaving cream is always key, but in addition to that, a good razor and lotion or aftershave, too. I like the Nivea for Men products, and I use a Gillette Fusion. Since I switched to the Nivea products, I have a lot less irritation when I shave.
