I'm quite a health freak?!

Question:

I'm quite a health freak?

Ok, that's the jokes out of the way.

I have started to eat a lot of veg (health drive) but get strong stomach pains and lots of wind.

I s eating veg doing me any harm?

I'm 37 years old.

Answers:

it's the fibre in the vegetables and complex carbs you are eating (oatmeal, brown bread, cereal, potatoes e.t.c). fibre moves through the large intestine very quickly, it helps with constipation. some fibre is fermented in the large intestine by bacteria that live there and this results in the production of gases like methane, hydrogen and carbon dioxide.

you will notice you are going to do a poo atleast 1 or 2 times a day. and the excrement is very soft and close to diarrea. if you are having severe diarrea you are eating too much fibre and the food is passing through your system too quick cut back on the veggies and high fibre carbohydrates.

the problem eventually dissapears when the intestine adapts. you have to introduce fibre gradually if you have rapidly changed your diet. have 1 serving of veggies a day and small portions of low fibre carbs, after a week or two, up that to 2 servings, then eventually 3 with proper carb intake.

i must stress that you boost your water intake, fibre absorbs water, more water the better. you need to perservere also.

you cannot do any damage to yourself, except that if the introduction of vegetables is extreme (5-8 portions of fruit ro veg a day after years of bad eating) and you persisted for a few months you could affect the way you digest foods in the future and may develope a diarrea or constipation problem as your body tries to adapt.
