Any good advice for post care vasectomy?!

Question:

Any good advice for post care vasectomy?

Answers:

FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

Step One-Wear an athletic supporter or tight briefs home from the doctor's office, and for at least a week afterward.

Step Two- Lie on your back for at least one day. You are permitted to get up to use the restroom and to eat meals, but minimize swelling by spending your post-operative day in bed.

Step Three- Apply an ice pack to your groin for 8 hours. Be sure to put the ice into a pack or plastic bag, and place it on top of your briefs or supporter. Leave the ice on for 20 minutes, then remove it for 20 minutes. Continue this on and off cycle for at least 8 hours.

Step Four- Take acetaminophen, with or without codeine, for pain as directed by your doctor. Do not take aspirin because it can increase scrotal bleeding.
Step Five- Drink lots of fluids. Good hydration enhances the body's ability to heal.

Step Six- Check your scrotal dressings at least once every 12 hours. Some oozing will occur, but if dressings are saturated with blood, call your doctor.

Step Seven- Avoid all physical labor for two days and any heavy lifting or contact sports for three weeks, or as ordered by your doctor.

Step Eight- Avoid sex for one week following the vasectomy. After that, remember to wear a condom or practice another method of birth control until you have ejaculated 15 to 20 times.

Tips & Warnings
Call your surgeon if you have difficulty urinating, or have increased swelling or pain three days after the operation, or if you develop a fever.
If you have any questions or concerns, contact a physician or other health-care professional before engaging in any activity related to health and diet.
