My grandpa was bald at 16...any hope for me?!

Question:

My grandpa was bald at 16...any hope for me?

My grandpa (mother side) was bald at 16 and my grandmother on my mother's side and both grandparents on my father side had AMAZING thick rich hair. I got the amazing hair (won Best Hair (Male or Female) sophmore-senior year in HS and was well known for my hair).

When I was 16 i noticed that my hairline was slowly creeping back. I am willing to except being bald because I am not that vain. But....I really like my hair. I plan on just shaving it IF the hair line starts to reach the back of my head.

But if Rogain or something will work and bring my hair back to its full glory then I might try that if my hair gets bad enough.

I guess the question is: how well does rogain work? Will the hair grow back and fall out? Will it grow back thin? Ect

Answers:

You are more likely to be prematurely balding if balding is on your mothers side of the family.

As far as Rogaine it is minimally effective. It is better at preventing more hair loss, than regrowing hair. You have to use it daily and if you stop you hair will continue to fall out.

Surgical hair replacement is very effective. It is not cheap but most people can afford it if they really don't want to be bald. If that is something you are interested in, visit several centers that specialize in hair replacement. A good job is not obvious at all, but a bad job is worse than being bald.
