To make it short, whenever a stimulus is applied to you ( such as touching your penis, seeing naked people, wathcing a porno) these send signals to your brain to stimulate the blood vessels in your penis to dilate (by releasing nitric oxide or NO) thus engorging blood inside. Then it also send impulses to contract the muscles in the penis to trap blood, thus making your penis hard and erect.
