Nose piercing is infected-If you have had this happen & is no more, post!?!

Question: Pretty sure my nose piercing is infected-red, bump around stud. I read other answers before-keep salt watering it, put neosporin around it with a q-tip, put alcohol around it, or go to a doctor.

If you have had this happen to you and it's not infected anymore, please let me know what I can do! *P.S. I got it in early September, so it's been in about 4 months now*

If your nose in infected it will be sore, red, hot, and producing puss. If it is just irritated it will be red, form a bump and maybe produce a little whiteish fluid (but not much). If you can't tell which it is, go back to your piercer and as them. If its infected you may well need anitbiotics. If its just irritated, cleaning will sort it out.

If your piercer thinks it is just irritated, attack your nose with the salt water soaks you were reading about. Doing this twice a day for a couple of weeks should bring the bump down and clear up the redness. Somewhere between 1/8-1/4 teaspoon sea salt in 8oz of very warm water. If you use the higher concentration give the piercing a light rinse with plain water when you are done. You can even soak a q-tip and swab the soak inside your nose as well.

Do not put ointments, alcohol, or peroxide on your piercing. All of these are too harsh and ointment just serves as a trap for dirt and bacteria.

Don't take your jewlery out unless it is to put in a high quality stud. Once you have a really nice stud in place, let it heal for a few weeks. Changing your jewlery too often can also cause big red bumps. If you need to wear a retainer for work, then buy a really nice retainer (like one of quartz glass) and just wear that for a few weeks. It's not a lot of fun to wear a retainer all the time, but until your nose heals daily changes will just make things worse.

Have your piercing checked out to make sure its relatively alright. Once you're on the track to recovery keep your piercing squeaky clean and leave quality jewlery in it. It should calm down over time.

try actually doing some of the suggestions you have read

if none of them work, including what the doctor says, then remove the stud and let it heal

Clean the area around your stud with anti-bacterial soap everyday. If your hole isn't gonna close up... try taking it out for a few days. If there is puss coming out of the bump... it's infected. If its just red and sore... its probably just irritated. Either way... clean with the soap... avoid alcohol and irritation. It should heal up on its own and be fine.

Well, it going to take a very long time to heal being that the piercing can't breath or get enough air as other piercings heal. The products that you used so far are good. Just keep using them, salt water, peroxide, all this cleans it out. I have a nose piercing that I got way back in April and it's still not healed,so it will take a while. Another major factor could be the type of nosering you are using. Make sure that it's real. I recommend surgical steel, fake jewelery will also cause this type of reaction. If none of these works, go back to the person that pierced it and ask for help. Hope this helps.
