What is the best way to treat mild winter depression.?!

Question: PLEASE do NOT stay in and eat soup!
You could spiral into further depression.

If you are just feeling "blue", then you will help yourself greatly by
a) getting some light exercise
b) getting natural light (even if it is overcast) outdoors
c) eating decent food
d) making a connection with someone your love

Why not combine all of the above by confiding in someone that you are feeling a bit low and asking them to come on a winter picnic with you? Bundle up, prepare some food (even just sandwiches and fruit) that is a mixture of treats and healthy stuff (plenty of greens and fruit), then go walk round your nearest park. If the park is small, take turns to walk backwards whilst watching out for each other, see how hard it is!

If you have no one to go with, go on your own and bring an audiobook on MP3 or decide to jot down drawings of birds you see to cross reference on the net - then you can name them.

If you REALLY can't face the outdoors, then walk to your local library and spend some time there.

You must get off the couch/out of bed.
You need light to activate your pineal glnd to regulate the chemicals in your body, and your circulation needs to be action to stop you feeling glum and moribound.

If you get any scary thoughts see a professional asap.

But I'm sure you'll be fine.
See kicking your bum into gear as a fun thing.
If you are not upset about anything in particular, then your motor is just a little run down, wake it up with fun :)

keep warm , stay inside, drink soup and eat

Get outside, bundle up and take walks. Keep busy.

I've heard you can get special types of light to sit on your desk that emit a certain type of light, which increases the production of whatever it is that makes us happy in summer.

Sorry for the terrible wording, I think it could be Vitamin D but it was such a long time ago since I read the article.

Heyahh

How about christmas cooking with your kids if you have any or get some friends or family round and bake mince pies gingerbread men ect...

Hope I Helped goood luck and merry xmas =]=]=]

go on holiday to a warmer country

just go to warmer place

Wrap up warm and regularly take a walk along a river or down a country lane. Take some binoculars and a friend if you can. The wild life and beauty of the countryside will cheer you.

Go tanning once or twice a week for ten minutes. It is a known fact that the light provided by tanning beds helps eliminate depression, since winter depression is normally caused by the fewer hours of daylight. Give it a shot, see how good you start feeling.
FYI..tanning beds these days are much safer then they were a few years age.

Sunlight is the best way. If you live somewhere where it is gloomy in the winter you can actually buy lamps that give off natural light similar to sunlight. A psychiatrist actually told me this. I think you can buy them online. Also take Vitamin D and a vitamin B complex (especially B-6 and B-12).

The lamps meant for this are much better than fake tanning because they don't cause skin damage and are cheaper in the long run.

Put on a few layers of clothes and take a walk. The endorphins in your brain will be released and you'll feel better.

azuradragonfly has it right. The light therapy lamps are good for Seasonal Affective Disorder. You can just use them as a reading light and they will lift your mood. They can be expensive, but it would be worth looking into. There are also light bulbs called Blues Buster and they would be less expensive than buying the whole lamp.

Here are the sites that have them:

I hope you feel better!

No one has it worse than me. I have tried all the lights, antidepressants, and all the other garbage.Nothing works better than a calender that says APRIL

As most winter depression is likely to be a form of SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), the easiest way would be to buy yourself a simple sun-lamp. SAD is caused by your brain not producing a chemical- some say serotonin, and some say melatonin- due to a lack on sunlight. However, the winter blues can also be caused simply by this time of year. With all of the rushing around, panicking and stress that Christmas causes, it's very easy to feel down. That, unfortunately, has no quick and easy answer, except maybe to take it easy and to be prepared to say "no" to expensive gifts and unnecessary food and drink. As someone who suffers with SAD, I really do feel for you and wish you the best. Try to remember that after December 21st (the solstice) the nights will grow shorter and you should start to feel a little bit better. If your depression continues throughout the year, you should seek medical help as it maybe a sign of more serious problems. Hope this helps.

I also say a few minutes in a tanning bed..I tan 10 minutes 2 -3 times a week . I feel sooooo much better when I come out..I believe tanning beds, if used with common sense are perfectly safe
