Answers: Netty pots being some sort of nasal apparatus to get rid of nasal congestion. I'm considering getting one.

Nasal congestion is caused by several things. If it is mechanical in nature than it can theoretically be 'washed' out by using a Netty Pot. However, some congestion is caused by swelling of the nasal passages which can only be calmed by either an antihistamine or decongestant. While the Netty Pot will soothe the passages for a short period of time they will often increase the congestion if you don't add a drying agent to pull the excess fluid out of the sinus'. You see the bodies number one reaction when it experiences an insult is to send fluid to the affected area. If you get a bug bite, get a bruise, bump a table you will see and enlarged area where the fluid has accumulated. It's the same when the sinus' are irritated and it's not mechanical. Your body is going to send additional fluid to soothe and cleanse away the irritant. So think long and hard. Netty Pots are actually to be used on a regular basis as part of your regular hygiene program not for just when your have a problem.

I have used a Netty Pot for several years but not on a regular basis. It does provide temporary relief but I sometimes wake up at night stuffier than if I hadn't used it. however, I have suffered for years with non-allergic rhinitis so my experience might be abnormal. Since you never know when a cold would have ended there's no way of telling whether its use shortens a cold's duration. I think you should consider it as a relief agent.
