Has anyone taken griseofulvin for toe nail fungus. Did it help?!

Question: Tried it years ago. It gave me really bad diarhea, so I could not take it long enough to see results.

Actually miconazole or itraconazole systemic treatment appears to be more effictive.

griseofulvin apparently alters the chemistry of your skin oils to be somewhat inhospitable to the fungus. to be effect it must be take for a long time to kill the fungus and any spores left by the original fungus.

Miconazole or itraconazole act by sealing the cell walls of the fungal cells and are immediatley affective on both the active funcus cells and the spores. But they cost a lot.

I know this sounds weird but try putting vicks vapor rub on your toe...It's supposed to work better than even a prescription for fungus.

Yes, griseofulvin works. But you may have to take it for 6 months to see a cure for the toe nail fungal infection. Better drugs like ketoconazole, fluconazole are more effective and faster acting. You can use them as local application and avoid any systemic toxic effects.
