Yes my friend has thyroid cancer. Thyroid cancer is one of the worst because the cancer can travel throughout the body. It is cureable though. I would not use the normal doctors to help I would go to those places that specialize in cancer. Also I have heard green tea can help slow down, stop, and even fight cancer. It definetly won't cure the cancer but it definetly will help.
It's not very uncommon to have growths on the thyroid. If they think it might be malignant they'll take out all or part of the thyroid and do a full biopsy of the tumor. If it's cancerous, they will usually take out the rest of the thyroid so that it doesn't spread, then monitor the other lymphnodes to make sure it hasn't spread to any of those either (less likely, but can still happen).
My girlfriend just had half of her thyroid removed due to a growth (turned out to be non-malignant), and it was basically just a bunch of tests and then the surgery and a few weeks to recoup. She has to take thyroid medication now, though, but it's no big deal.
