She is in remission.

There is a chance she will relapse, in which case she will go through more chemo, and then a bone marrow transplant. Transplant is the only known possible 'cure' for leukemia.

No that doesn't mean she is cured. She is probably in remission ( her symptoms are not active right now). This type of leukemia is curable. Bone marrow translplants are being used more and more often now to cure leukemia and some other types of cancer. Plz give her my luck!!

Leukemia(AML,CLL,CML and others) and Cancers are from unknown cause. studies are saying it "could" be genetically linked unless proven by this is not generally true in all cases.

curable in the field of medicine is a very broad word.
yes its curable at the moment cause CA's and leukemia's are relapsing cases wherein after treatment we don't know if it will come again.

what i mean is everybody in this world has cancer cells waiting to be activated. yes..you and me and everybody at yahoo has cancer cells in our body waiting to bo trigerred by an outside component like frequent exposures in paint and alike, in radiations, benezenes and anything that is harmful to us.constant exposure could trigger our cancer cells.

your friend maybe cured for now. let us all hope and pray it will be gone cause from the cases we've had some will comeback after 3, 5, 10, 15 yrs... only God knows when

About 40% of AML patients are cured by chemotherapy alone. If she has completed all her chemo and is in a good solid remission she may be one of these lucky ones. But like Midnight said, if it comes back she will need a bone marrow transplant (aka stem cell transplant).
