Lung function increases after quitting smoking? Drs please.?!

Question: I quit smoking 3 months ago and want to get started in some cardio required sports (i.e. soccer, running, etc.) How much can my lungs improve and how much time will it take. I'm 25 (smoked since 16 1+ packs a day, no COPD or anything else like that)

The damage that has been done will stick with you for life however there is hope.

You should see benefits immediately. As the carbon monoxide is filtered off the blood, you will have more room for oxygen increasing your oxygen caring capacity. This will allow you do more physical activity.

You wont be able to run a marathon next week but most of us couldn't do that. You will have to train, practice and build up to doing cardio sports.

You will be coughing up phlegm for several weeks. This will make you at higher risk for infection. Drink plenty of water. Eat well and wash your hands often. Try to stay away from sick people.

Set goals for yourself. Remind your self how much better you will feel, how much better food will taste and smell, how much money you will save and how you wont stink as much.

Good for you for quitting. If you need help try this website.
