Can somebody please tell me if someone aged 50 can get shingles?!
Question: Yes. Shingles (Herpes Zoster) is the same virus that causes Chicken Pox. Once you have Chicken Pox, the virus lays dormant near the nerve roots of the spine. Theoretically, stress can trigger an attack, giving you a tell-tale rash along the nerve area (Dermatome). It is one sided and can be painful. It is treated with Anti-viral medicines, steroids and maybe antibiotics if it looks infected. I had them when I was 17...and have worked in medicine for 22 years and have seen them in all ages.

sure can
I am pretty sure anyone of any age can get shingles
Of course. 50 is a prime age for this to appear. The chicken pox virus lies dormant in your body for years and year and then, during a period of physical or emotional stress or illness, it appears, causing red rash, pain, itching. There are anti-viral and pain medications which will help.
Older adults are usually the people who get shingles more than younger people. It occurs in people who've had the chicken pox in childhood...the zoster virus stays dormant and in some people (not everyone), reoccurs when they get older.
It's like getting chicken pox again...but this time in adulthood.
the older generation is more likely get shingles due to the fact that you must be in a immune compromised situation usually
