Heart problems at the age of 20?!

Question: I've been having this strange heart palpitation: It feels like my heart is skipping a beat, and right after that I have to catch my breath. The "skip" lasts about a second, and immediately it feels like I need to catch my breath back for a few seconds. so pretty much this thing lasts anywhere from 3-4 seconds.

It's been happening for the last month, at first it was once a week, to every day for the last week, now it's been happening several times a day for the last 2-3 days, today it happened nearly 30 times....

thoughts? You think it's my heart, lungs, or something else?

It sounds like it's most likely a PVC...a premature ventricular contraction. It feels like a skipped heart beat, but it's actually sort of an extra heart beat. The "skip" is the pause that occurs after the PVC and then the heart resets itself. It's usually benign unless it occurs over a long period of time or if you have several of them in a row. It can be cause by stress, lack of sleep, caffeine...a lot of college kids experience it and it usually resolves itself. However, I would still seek the advice of your normal doctor and he or she can decide if it warrants seeing a cardiologist for further testing. Usual testing involves an EKG and an echocardiogram. If it's persistent, you may be asked to wear a heart monitor. A PVC is usually benign, but can also be a fairly general symptom for a large number of heart conditions. That being said, make an appointment with your doctor ASAP.

go see a doctor and find out

this could end in your sudden death if you don't go to the doctor. My father had his first heart attack when he was 24. Luckily i have healthy heart. But its very possible to have a heart attack at 20. No joke. Go see the doctor please.

i think u should go see a doctor asap, most probably its nothing but better be safe than sorry.

You need the services of a cardiologists. You could be having something as simple as an anxiety attack or heart palpitatations which CAN be serious or even fatal.

Get in and ge it looked at. Don't wait and become a blurb on a medical examiners autopsy report.

Get it checked out with your doctor. I had a similar problem and it was found to be an extra 'pathway'. So I had two pathways trying to tell my heart how to beat. It was cured quite easily by a very simple surgical procedure and I have had no problems since. As you are so young it really does need to be checked out as you may find it can get much worse (I had periods of half hour or more when my heart was beating 200+ beats per minute) and it can be very scary.

i think you should go to the doctors it sounds like you have a heart merma this is what they call a irregular heartbeat they can find out for you by putting a ekg on your heart does not hurt at all no pain at all but this will tell you if you are having irregular heartbeats God bless you and Good luck

consult a doctor for right answer. OK

Go see a doctor. It's entirely possible you're dehydrated or allergic to something, even a virus can do this. But you may also have a heart murmur, which can be serious, especially if it has suddenly appeared. It's easy enough for the doctor to figure it out, and it'll put your mind at rest.
