If you in UK you can have nearly anything and get treatment for completely different conditions. Try to get an appointment to the hospital (not your GP) and hope for someone like Doctor House to be there. Good Luck!
P.S. Hookworm is not easy to detect. You have to have few tests that can be run at hospital only. And it has to get the window of opportunity to be detectable. Low haemoglobin can be symptom of lots of different conditions. You have to have a proper check up.

if you are not satisfied with what your doctor said go to another and see what he/she says

Do you have any sources of iron in your diet? And do you have a source of hookworm infection?

The Dr. possibly has a little more experience in these symptoms than you. I would defer to his diagnosis.

Have you actually told your doctor of your fears and asked him to put a stool sample in for examination for hookworm eggs -if only to put your mind at rest? If he is a good doctor he will listen to you and do this test, even if he is convinced it is unlikely in his opinion, because he will see how much it is concerning and stressing you. If you do have hookworm then the eggs will be easily identified in your specimen. If you don't there will be no eggs to be found. Treatment lasts about 3/4 days and you can ask for another stool specimen to be checked two or three weeks after that to confirm (if you had any that is) that they have all gone.
Hookworm causes anaemia, but then so does having an inadequate diet low in iron (which can happen if you don't eat meat), so your doctor is right to treat your anaemia the way he is. You seem to just differ as to your opinion as to what caused the anaemia rather than the treatment, if I read you correctly. Whatever the cause, I wish you well soon. If you are a vegetarian, do try and research throughly how to get adequate sources of iron into your diet. Your doctor or a nutritionist should be able to advise. Good luck.
